the street is a boutique

For years, the street has been my corner shop—but what exactly is the “thing” it’s selling to me? I stumble upon a bunch of flowers tossed in the bin, a few odd individuals killing time, and
obnoxious advertising in the window next to me at the bus stop—all of it summed up by specks of graffiti on the pavement, be it in London, Paris, or Latvia.

I do a 360-degree scan—up, down, left, right—and I see… well, whatever and whoever speaks to me that day*. Days, months, YEARS pass, and I’m now thinking—what am I out shopping
for? Moreover, what would someone else have “bought”? Or what might I have noticed in a parallel universe?

I study the people my camera lens has mercilessly trapped (within the grids of my iPhone) and wonder what on Earth they might gather from the endless selection the street’s boutique offers. By “boutique” I mean the boulevards of Paris, the alleys of London, and the little ielas of Riga.

Here, I attempt to gift you a metaphorical yet intuitive shopping experience—a shopping spree in which I search for words of wisdom, not for myself, but for those who have passed me by.

Thanks, and don’t take it too seriously. x

*In essence, I suppose this is an unasked-for reminiscence
of others—those characters I have crossed paths with. This
isn’t my corner-shop journey, but theirs.

What might they be picking up from the streets? This little
montage is my answer—I’ve built possible corner-shop matches
for these picturesque strangers. I hope they become peculiar
“souvenirs” of the places we’ve all spent a bit of time in.
