CORNER SHOP LOST & FOUND
A multi-functional, nostalgia-ridden & sentiment-fulfilled jewellery piece made by Alisa Cayoo for SOAP #3 issue 'Corner Shop'.
The necklace reimagines a corner shop, one that is built from items found on the streets whilst walking around Gambetta, Belleville and Les Halles; the usual stomping grounds for many, many busy Parisians..
Who knows, perhaps these pendants have fallen off in a rush, or perhaps someone has gotten rid of them on purpose. Yet, they lay unwanted by these small institutions, making up not only a story of the lives lived past them, but also of what speaks to SOAP. Of what we want to see in the corner shop of our memory.

This piece is a testament to all the things we wanted as children (a horse, duh!!!), as adults (a ‘le club’ badge, being the social animals we are...), as well as just… humans for whom time is endlessly running out (that round, clock-like pendant is our favourite). However, they are now put on display in the corner shop of lost & found. With Alisa’s piece we wanted to collect glimpses of the past and have them materialise right in front of us, in a physical form. Picking up memories of others and of ourselves is a way to carry on the legacy of our very short-lived presence in this world.
Not wearing your heart on your sleeve, but carrying your memories around your neck… Time will tell if it is healthy or not.
