The cartoonish appearance of 18th-century aristocracy resembles the unreasonable fashion of today, where both the work of art and its plagiarism find a place under the same sun. In 1772, dressmaker Rose Bertin was appointed as the designer of Marie Antoinette’s garments and quickly achieved incredible success. At the same time, the highly popular Pandora dolls paved the way for the global spread of fashion, which over time transformed into porcelain dolls, illustrated fashion magazines and later, Barbie dolls. Today, this evolution continues through the bodies of women themselves.
